A live-edge slab of urban-salvaged Claro walnut, gifted by Andrew's friend Sam Moyer, set on splayed Douglas fir legs reclaimed from an old DTLA factory building. Andrew has made comparatively little live-edge furniture, out of respect for George Nakashima and his daughter Mira, who pioneered using the crotches and irregular parts most lumber yards discard, stabilizing them with butterfly joints rather than the fluorescent resin and welded bases common in live-edge work today.
This piece is Andrew's own answer to that tradition: a live-edge top paired with his own splayed-leg base, stabilized with his own contrasting-wood "stitch" joinery in place of a traditional butterfly key.
