69 Leg Table (2008)

2008 · Los Angeles · Reclaimed Douglas fir, reclaimed maple, tung oil and paste wax
48"L × 28"W × 18"H
Shown with Ford Brady Gallery, Chinatown

The table that actually started Andrew's multi-leg-table idea, a year before the better-known 2009 version. A reclaimed Douglas fir top, built from 2x4s sourced in Hollywood, sits on 69 maple legs pulled from a counter found in the same dumpster. It sold at its opening, which is what forced Andrew to build a second one — the 69 Leg Coffee Table — to show with the gallery that became Ford & Ching.

Ford Brady was a Chinatown gallery owned by Willard Ford, son of actor Harrison Ford, and his friend John Brady, an Olympic cyclist; when John left and Andrea Ching took his place, it became Ford & Ching. This table was shown alongside a painting by Alejandro Gómez de Cuenca, son of architect Frank Gehry, whose own quote ran in the press at the time: "I'm going to paint punks kissing until I am sick of painting punks kissing."
