Thick, chunky, and stout, this little caramel-colored chair has horns poking up like a baby goat — a nice feature to hang a bag on. It has quite the girth, with thick legs casually splayed outward. A hand-carved seat relieves the pressure of sitting, while the curved backrest supports the back in just the right place to make sitting up straight comfortable.
Built from reclaimed Douglas fir 2x4s pulled from a Hollywood Hills home renovation dumpster — the same truckload of wood behind the 2008 69 Leg Table and the Chris Cross Apple Sauce Table. The legs are kept the full width of the milled 2x4, glued up into the seat and back legs at that same intentional width, so the finished chair still visibly reads as dimensional lumber that once held up a house. Half-lap and mortise-and-tenon joinery throughout, no fasteners, hand-carved seat, finished with five coats of hand-rubbed tung oil and wax.
Made as a series of seven. Shown at the Good Luck Gallery's 2014 group chair show alongside the Kick Ass Chair, Bubble Wrap Chair, Scissor Chair, and Spring Back Banker's Chair.
