Carved entirely from dunnage oak that rode the Santa Fe rail line through the Southwest for sixty years before being reclaimed — the same salvage category as the Cloud Pony Bench, the Raft Bench, and the Belly Button End Tables. An extravagant use of material for a hand-carved chair that reads as far lighter than its actual girth. The joinery is mortise-and-live-tenon paired with half-lap X's forming the sides, smoothed to a silky traditional Danish soap finish, the seat carved directly to the body.
A poem from the thesis book: "reclaimed wooden motorcycle gas tanks / preserved with coal soot / racing trains / in the dust bowl / at the crossroads... freight train wall of noise / air wake / sparkling cloud of dust."
