A CNC-carved underside ripples like a baby whale's belly, and the legs are hand-mortised into the top with Andrew's double-tiered, dovetailed mortise-and-tenon joinery, locked with contrasting-wood wedges left visible on the surface — no screws or fasteners, built to last like the rest of that joint family, used on the Mini Belly, Wing, and Triple Belly Tables, the Dragon and Dragon Drop Tables, the Toad and Stone Tables, and the XOX Belly Table.
Built from the same reclaimed Douglas fir beams as the Stone Table — salvaged columns from a Silver Lake parking structure that once served the earliest Hollywood movie studios on that site. Made at 800 Traction in DTLA, in a shared woodshop with author and designer George Rollins. The same design, executed in a lighter wood, later became the eight Baby Whale Benches for Samuel Freeman Gallery.
